Clean clothes provide a great deal of relief to a homeless neighbor after being out on the streets all day. Whether during the cold months of winter or the sweltering days of summer, the season feels extra-long when you are living on the streets or sleeping in a subway car. Last year, our donors and volunteers helped The Bowery Mission distribute 44, 100 articles of clothing to men, women and children in desperate need of help.
Clean, new and gently used clothing of all types is helpful. Large sizes are especially useful. We are always in need of new underwear/undershirts and socks, new and gently used jeans and shoes, and professional clothing for those looking for work or re-entering the workforce.
In the winter, we are especially in need of warm outerwear: coats, jackets, hats, gloves and scarves.
We gratefully accept donations 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 227 Bowery in Manhattan. We do not typically pick up donations, but if you have an extraordinarily large or unusual donation, please call Blair Nordby at 646-362-3130 or email donategoods@bowery.org to inquire about a pickup.
If you drop off the item(s) in person, you will be given an in-kind gift receipt that describes the donation. If you mail in the item(s) and wish to receive an in-kind gift receipt, please include a written note indicating so. If the value exceeds $500 and you claim the donation on your federal tax return, you may be required to file IRS Form 8283 and obtain an appraisal of the value.
